Good Idea: Writing notes for yourself so you can remember all the things you need to say to someone on the phone even though you're nervous.

Bad Idea: Reading your notes like a laundry list when the person answers the phone.

Good Idea: Asking someone on a date so you can get to know him.

Bad Idea: Asking someone on a date by saying, "I think I love you. We should go on a date so I can find out."
